Hot Tubs & Swim Spas: What’s the Difference Between the Two?
Is the yard of your New Mexico home too limited to accommodate a large swimming pool, but you’d still like to add a hot tub or swim spa? If so, it’s good to be sure of the differences between the two so you know which would work best for your home, preferences, and budget.
Hot Tub vs. Swim Spa
A hot tub typically seats a handful of adults and features warm, circulating water and pulsing jets. A swim spa, on the other hand, is slightly larger in size than a hot tub and creates a strong current that allows a person to swim while remaining in the same spot. What really differentiates the two is how you plan on using them.
Relaxation vs. Recreation
Hot tubs are generally more popular for relaxing and creating a spot in your yard for socialization. Because you sit in a hot tub and soak, these fixtures often serve as a therapeutic escape for the owner(s), similar to soaking in a bathtub. Swim spas, however, are designed more for exercise. If you don’t have the yard space for a full-size pool but would still like to swim laps, then a swim spa is the space-saving alternative.
