Bathroom Remodeling Tips for Better Bathrooms

When you’re planning bathroom remodeling project, take it as an opportunity not just to change how your space looks but also to improve its functionality. Here are some remodeling tips you should consider before you finalize your remodeling plans.

Bathroom Remodeling Tips for Better Bathrooms

Convenience and Space for Movement

A common approach to remodeling is starting with the features that you want to add: a new tub here, a glass block partition there, maybe even electronic controls. But bathrooms tend to have limited space, so you should always take this into consideration. If you happen to have a shared bathroom, you don’t want to be bumping into each other.

Consider how you use your bathroom now. Is there anything you find inconvenient that you wish to change? Perhaps an additional seat for drying your feet and your hair? Cabinets that can be easily reached without standing on your tiptoes? Or maybe you have a shower stall that isn’t used as often and could be a candidate for shower conversion (which happens to be one of our popular services)?

Bathroom and Daylighting

The bathroom is easily one of the stuffiest and dampest rooms in your home and this is a rather common problem, even in newly remodeled bath spaces. As with any stuffy or crowded room, daylighting is an important design factor in any bathroom remodeling project.

The simplest way to go about this is by installing larger or taller windows, ideally, a few inches taller than your original windows. Doing this lets in more natural light, which makes your bathroom less stuffy. Daylighting also helps increase the visual space of your bathroom, which is always a nice bonus.

If daylighting is not possible, the principle still applies: ample lighting is important, especially if you’re planning a more senior-friendly space. By installing lighting in strategic places in your bathroom, you’re making it safer.

Tiles and Bath Space

Another “trick” you can do to increase your bathroom’s visual space without actually increasing the size is by installing larger tiles. The larger area of the new tiles makes your room appear wider and more spacious. Keep this in mind when you’re undertaking a bathroom remodel for smaller areas.

You Can Move Things Around

Unless you don’t have the option to change the plumbing, take your bathroom remodeling project as an opportunity to completely change how you use your bathroom, make it easier to use and even add accessibility features.

Carefully planning which part goes where is important for ease of use. Sinks, for instance, should be easily accessible from the door while toilets should be placed out of sightlines. A beautiful new bathtub should be made the focal point of the bathroom regardless of how often (or seldom) you use it. Storage is another consideration, and the good news is there are many ways you can maximize bathroom storage without sacrificing space. Aside from the typical under-the-sink cabinets, you can have bay windows with window seats that double as storage space.
