The Best Bathroom Trends for 2017

Many homeowners regard bathrooms in a utilitarian sense. Bathrooms, however, are one of the most-used rooms in a house, which means you should make bathroom remodeling a priority. For inspiration, here are some of the best bathroom trends this year.

Natural Materials

The first half of 2017 has seen a marked return to incorporating organic aesthetics into indoor design. Organic components like wood and stone provide a nice visual and textural contrast against marble and tile and can be incorporated in many ways, from minor wood accents to large components like a wooden standalone tub. Reclaimed wood, in particular, is a popular choice for building racks, seats, and footrests.

Green, living plants are also becoming more popular both as a decorative accent and a functional element. Plants that thrive in reduced sunlight such as begonias, dracaenas, and orchids help reduce bathroom humidity and prevent mirrors from fogging by absorbing moisture from the air.

Visual Continuity

A shared color palette creates a sense of continuity between the bathroom and an adjoining room. It makes the bathroom feel less like a utility and more a part of the house. You can take this one step further by eliminating the bathroom door and instead creating a partition between the two rooms. Unbroken tile and wall color palettes reinforce the continuous look and make both rooms look much larger. Take this as an opportunity for shower conversion and creating privacy enclosures for the toilet to reclaim even more space.

Dark Colors

Experiment with dark colors to add contrast and depth to otherwise monochromatic color palettes. Instead of painting certain areas, choose black-colored components. For example, black faucets, showerheads, or other plumbing make them pop against white tile or marble. Existing wood accents can be stained with darker shades or you can choose to have a black marble sink installed.
